Documents requirements for a Thai driving license

Before you apply for a Thai driving license, make sure you meet the legal requirements and collect all documents in advance. This checklist covers residency proof, medical certificate, translations, and DLT tests.

Eligibility

Mandatory documents

  • Resident Certificate — from Immigration or District Office (or Work Permit).
  • Medical Certificate — simple check at clinic/hospital (usually same day).
  • National License — with English or certified translation.
  • Passport copies — bio page + visa/extension pages.
  • Photos — taken at DLT during issuance (no need to bring).

Translations & consular verification

When your license is not in English, a certified translation is required. For some countries, consular verification is also recommended to speed approval. We can arrange both.

DLT tests

Processing time & license validity

Document prep and tests: typically 2–3 working days. First Thai license is usually 2 years, then upgradeable to 5 years after renewal, provided your visa status stays valid.
